About Me

When I was in kindergarten my teacher would yell at me for pressing too hard with my crayons. She said they would wear out very quickly, but I didn’t care; I loved the intense color. Now instead of crayons, it’s acrylics and colored pencils and I’m still doing vivid saturated color.

After graduating from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, I worked as a Graphic Artist for ten years. I then segued into Decorative Painting, creating artwork on everything from walls to furniture, and even ostrich eggs!

Currently I am concentrating  writing and illustrating children’s picture books. When I was a child I gravitated towards the books with the biggest pictures, so naturally I wanted to be a part of that art. In high school, a creative writing class opened the door that inspired me to become an author.  In 2010 my first poem and illustration was published.

My paintings, “Enchanted Everglades,” depicts whimsical alligators and birds filled with joy. My series “Gotta Dance” shows the excitement and passion of dancers. The “Art Deco” paintings are inspired by the style and colors of Miami Beach.

Between creating art and writing I am a teacher, but not the regular sort. In 1994 I started teaching drawing and painting classes to children. Since 1999 I have been teaching swimming to babies and young children. It is so rewarding to help a child achieve and succeed.

I joined Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) in 2002, and am a critique group leader. I attend as many conferences and workshops as possible.

Away from my art, my husband and I love spending time with our daughters, son-in-laws and grandson; attending concerts, museums, Broadway shows and outdoor activities. And no matter how old they get we always enjoy going to Disney World.
